3D Gaming And Video Coming To A Dell and HP Laptop Near You? [Rumor]

I was just thinking that my laptop’s screen was way too two-dimensional. Ok, no I wasn’t but these rumored 3D laptops from Dell and HP could be pretty freaking cool for 3D games and movies.

The rumor is that Dell and HP have placed orders with Taiwanese manufacturer Wistron for 3D notebooks and they could arrive soon. Acer has been rumored to release a notebook with a 16-inch 3D display as soon as next month. I have to expect 3D technology would add quite a bit to these types of notebooks especially if they use Nvidia’s GeForce 3D Vision.

Now I am convinced I would look like a tool wearing 3D glasses in front of my laptop, but I’ve always wanted to read my e-mail in 3D. [Digitimes]

@ELPARTO: Ha! You think that’s bad. Just wait: [www.slashfilm.com]

Short version: CEO of Dreamworks Animation says folks should be charging even *more* for 3D movies. Because apparently, people are willing to pay out the wazoo for crappy peripherals and nauseating effects (also known as Star Wars Syndrome).

$3 extra sounds about right. But if Krapzenburg has his way, they’ll raise the price even more, just because they can.

The future, ladies and gentlemen!

This will continue to be totally lame until the Apple 3D rumors start circulating.

@OCEntertainment: They charge $3 extra for 3D movie showings here! I guess it’s because $10 for a standard ticket just isn’t enough to cover the shitty glasses they give you.

ELPARTO

@Covertghost: Honestly! Could there have been a worse push for 3D? I mean “My Bloody Valentine” already reeks of crappy movie. But “in 3D!!!?”. That’s just god-awful.

Not to mention Beowulf. In 3D. I seriously thought that was a joke.

@Moonshadow101: Yes, I abso-freakin-lutely do. Crazy kids today with their 3D glasses, and their slightly-more-realistic sense of depth perception. Why, when I was coming up, we had 2D screens that merely used clever camera tricks, visual sleight of hand, and computer simulations of 3D environments to give the convincingly accurate illusion of depth AND WE LIKED IT.

Anyone else feel like a really old man whenever this particular topic comes up?

No! Get it away from me! It’s not the future, it’s just STUPID!

Moonshadow101

Zomg! New technology! It’s like they tried this back in the year 2000!

I used to own one of those, damn glasses never worked.

If you haven’t tried NVIDIA’s 3DVision yet you are missing out. It is fantastic, it’s way better than you would imagine, and I for one hope they come out with laptops that can handle the 3D because I would definitely buy one

PDAisAok

Won’t you need a 3D mouse that can reach around behind stuff?

reddingofish

serious question: the laptop i am using right now fits two of the requirements of the headline – it is both a Dell and it is near me. Does this mean, and please say yes, that 3D gaming and video will be coming to it?

Anonymoose

At CES Panasonic showed off their 103 inch plasma with polarized 3D glasses tech. It was so awesome. I’d have no problem watching TV like that. That said i just bought a v10 plasma thinking that 3D would still be at least 5 years away. With all this news, plus PS3 3D games, plus every movie coming out of Disney being in 3D, I am wondering if I should have waited.

I best most readers on here use their computers for work and prn. We’ll see if the latter will speed up or slow down adoption of these kind of cameras and material.

Optimus-Prime

Can we please stop trying to push this 3D crap on every video medium?

It isn’t 1978 anymore…

I blame that stupid My Bloody Valentine.
